Celebrate Another Summer with CFN and CNSF Support

CAMPERSHIPS FOR NEBAGAMON

Truly Making Camp A Place of Welcome For All

Founded in 1995, Camperships For Nebagamon (CFN) supports children who otherwise would not be able to enjoy a private camping experience. These children, from a diversity of backgrounds, enjoy life-changing experiences and enrich the camp community with their diverse cultural perspectives. CFN aims to support campers for multiple years, giving them sustained access to a summer community in which to build friendships and identity.

Leveraging income from the Muggs and Janet Lorber Endowment Fund and individual donations, CFN currently provides partial tuition for nearly 50 boys attending Camp Nebagamon each year. Since 2002, CFN has also funded partial tuition for girls attending Camp WeHaKee, located in the Chequamegon National Forest of northern Wisconsin. As funds allow, CFN plans to identify other “partner” camps to fulfill its charitable goals.

Utilizing an annual evaluation process, CFN’s board has been heartened by the positive impact of its funding on individual campers and the broader camp communities.

CFN depends upon continued contributions to sustain current campership levels and to be able to increase the aid available each year (both to keep up with the rising costs of private camps and to increase, as possible, the number of camperships provided each summer).

CAMP NEBAGAMON SCHOLARSHIP FUND

A Path Toward Success for Disadvantaged Children

The Camp Nebagamon Scholarship Fund provides life-changing camping experiences for children who live with poverty in their homes and communities, and/or physical, cognitive or psychological disabilities. Contributions to the CN Scholarship Fund support tuition scholarships at non-profit camps uniquely qualified to change the lives of such children through recreation, friendship and experiences that cultivate skills and values needed for success in life.

Thousands of children who face such challenges have attended camps near their homes—near many cities where Nebagamon campers live—thanks to the generosity of Nebagamon alumni and friends. Founded in 1947 by Muggs and Janet Lorber, the CN Scholarship Fund was administered by Nardie and Sally Lorber Stein for over 50 years.

Contributions will benefit both originations and are tax deductible.

NEBAGAMON’S 2019-2020 ROADSHOW

One of the more fun tasks of the off-season is creating the travel schedule for the upcoming year.  Every year, we traverse the country meeting and reconnecting with members of the camp family to give them a little taste of the North Woods during the school year, just to keep them going!  Here is the tentative schedule for the 2019-2020 year.  We look forward to seeing you at one of these reunions!

Important Information Regarding Camper Luggage and Travel

LUGGAGE TAGS:

These should be firmly attached to every bag a camper brings with him, whether it is being checked in, carried on an airplane, or taken on the Chicago bus. This applies to everyone, regardless of airline or travel arrangements to camp. It is important that we, and airline personnel, are able to identify all baggage by the yellow Camp Nebagamon tags.

DUFFEL BAGS/LUGGAGE:

ALL Airlines: Please pre-pay baggage fees for your son’s return flight. This has changed from recent years and now includes Delta Airlines. (Please note that if for some reason the airline does not allow you to pre-pay, we will pay the fees on the return trip and charge your son’s spending money account.)

If you need to ship bags to camp, please notify Briggs ahead of time and send them at least one week prior to your son’s arrival at camp. Camp’s physical address (needed for any UPS/FedEx deliveries) is 11454 Camp Nebagamon Dr, Lake Nebagamon, WI 54849. Please note that if you also want the luggage shipped home at the end of the camp season, it is simplest for our office (and our local UPS & FedEx drivers) if you can mail to Briggs’s attention at camp (briggs@campnebagamon.com) completed FedEx/UPS tags or forms. (Please note that due to limited storage space at camp, and our arrangement with the MSP airport, we do urge you to check bags on the trip home if possible, especially on Delta Airlines.)

CAMPERS TRAVELING VIA AIRPLANE:

If you are booking your tickets through our travel agent, Travel One, any questions about airline tickets should be directed to Travel One at 800-245-1111. Ask for Liz Egge or Sonni Banks. Travel One issues electronic tickets for each camper, so do not worry about receiving a paper ticket for your child. If you are arranging travel independently, please submit the information via the online transportation form.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMPLETE YOUR CAMPER FORMS!

With camp just around the corner, our office has been busy checking in forms and getting ready for the first round of campers to arrive on June 18th. Regardless of which session your child is attending at camp, please submit his required paperwork if you have not already done so.

Please make sure the following items are completed as soon as possible:

*Cabin Preference Form: We need this information within the next few days in order to work on cabin placement before the season begins.

*Health History Form: Parents, make sure to complete all sections of this form (including medications and vaccination records) so that we are able to accurately understand your camper’s health history and prepare for his arrival. If your child needs prescription medications, please place your order with CampMeds, Inc. at www.campmeds.com. The ordering deadline is 30 days prior to your son’s arrival at camp.

*Physician’s Examination Form: We need paperwork showing that your son has received a physical exam within the past 12 months. You may download our physician’s examination form for your child’s doctor to complete or submit a copy of similar documentation from the doctor’s office. Please note that any immunization records provided by your doctor should also be entered in your son’s online health history form by you.

*Medical Treatment Authorization Form: This form MUST be signed by a parent/guardian prior to camper arrivals. A copy of his health insurance card should also be attached.

*Objectives & Personality Form: This information helps our counselors prepare to guide your son towards completing a happy and productive summer. You may also email a more detailed letter to his counselors at info@campnebagamon.com.

Last, but not least, when you have logged in to the camper forms system, make sure YOUR contact information is up-to-date and that you have listed two emergency contacts besides a parent/guardian. You may do so by clicking on “Update Addresses/Phone Numbers” under the Your Family section.

Please Remember to Return Camp Forms by May 15th!

With the 2019 camp season quickly approaching, we’d like to issue a few reminders that will help to answer questions and make the transition into camp run as smoothly as possible.

  • All families should have received our packet containing the Parent Handbook and instructions for completing your camper forms. All the forms need to be submitted by May 15. If your doctor can’t schedule the physical exam until after May 15, that’s OK, but please shoot us an e-mail at briggs@campnebagamon.com to let us know. We read every form in its entirety, and the information helps us provide a fun and healthy summer for each camper. Please be diligent in filling them out.
  • If your son will be using any daily medication in pill form, please note the due dates for CampMeds, a prepackaged medication service. (May 18 for first session and eight-week campers, and June 16 for second session campers.) This information was mailed to you in April and can also be found in the Parent Handbook.
  • The camp office is moving to Lake Nebagamon on May 3 this year, and we expect to be up and running by May 7. After May 7, we can be reached at 715-374-2275.
  • Please make travel arrangements as early as possible. If you are using the Official Travel Agency of Camp Nebagamon, Travel One, contact them at 1-800-245-1111 and work with Liz Egge or Sonni Banks. If you are not using Travel One, we need to know your plans by the May 15 deadline.

The 23rd Annual Icebreaker Contest Starts Today!

It’s time for the annual icebreaker contest! We’re hoping spring will soon be upon us, so when exactly will the ice break?  That’s the question facing us as we begin this year’s contest.

In 2012 Lake Nebagamon experienced its earliest icebreak on record, falling on March 21st. The latest ice breakup was on May 14th in 2013. The Official Lake Nebagamon Ice Recorder is none other than our own Andy Mack.  He is already monitoring the lake for the village and will let us know as soon as the ice disappears, whether it happens mid-afternoon or at 3 a.m. Yes folks, Andy spends every waking moment (eating, sleeping, and working!) on the very shores of Lake Nebagamon to let us know EXACTLY when the ice breaks up (correct up to the second)!

To enter, simply fill out the form below. All entries must be received by April 1st. Of course, it would be wise to read the fine print below before making your guess. Winners could be contacted by Bravo TV, the Cartoon Network, VH1, the Discovery Channel, and other major networks and will receive prominent mention in The Arrowhead.  So, don’t wait until the last minute.  Send us your guess right away!

THE FOLLOWING APPLIES TO THE SWEEPSTAKES ABOVE:

Sweepstakes begins on the day you receive this Arrowhead and all entries must be received by April 1st. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, illegible or postage-due mail. Entries become the property of Camp Nebagamon LLC and will not be returned or acknowledged. Any prize notice that results from a printing, production, typographical, mechanical or other error will be void.  If due to an error, more than one prize notice is issued, the prize will be awarded in a random drawing among all such notices issued and received. Sweepstakes open to the residents of the United States and Canada and to residents in selected parts of Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, Mexico, North America and South America, where made available and where permitted by law.  Employees (full-time) of Camp Nebagamon LLC and members of those employees’ immediate families are not eligible. Select camp dogs permitted to submit entries; cats prohibited. This offer is subject to all applicable federal, state, provincial and local laws and regulations and is void whenever prohibited or restricted by law. Winner selection and random drawings are under the supervision of Ostrow Reisin Berk and Abrams Ltd., an independent accounting firm whose decisions are final.  Random drawings will be held within 5 days of the ice breaking, no later than 5:00 p.m. at 877 Chardie Road, Boise, ID 83702.  Winners will be notified within 10 days of the selection/drawing.  Any prize or prize notification returned to the sponsor as undeliverable will result in the awarding of that prize to an alternate winner in a random drawing. Prize is not transferable except to a surviving spouse.  Substitution for the prize may be necessary due to unavailability, in which case a comparable prize of equal or lesser value will be awarded.  In countries where cash prizes are prohibited, substitute merchandise of comparable value will be awarded.  Taxes (and any expenses not specified herein) are the responsibility of the winners.  Entry and acceptance of the prize constitute permission (except where prohibited by law) to use the winner’s name, hometown and likeness for purpose of advertising and promotion on behalf of the contest sponsor without further compensation. If you’ve read this far, congratulations!  The fine print is a joke, but the contest is for real!

Parent Preparation Packet Coming Your Way!

One certain sign of spring is the arrival of the packet of information to help you plan for the summer. This year all the paperwork for you camper will again be available in an online-only format. We will still be mailing the Parent Handbook and the official Nebagamon luggage tags, so please look for them in the mail. (If you want to go ahead and contact Travel One, Camp Nebagamon’s official travel agency, please call them at 800-245-1111.) This important mailing will leave camp’s winter office by the beginning of April. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact us at 208-345-5544 or briggs@campnebagamon.com with any questions you may have about getting ready for a wonderful 2019 season!
